Subspecies
No subspecies.
Despite superficial resemblance to Phyllomyias, genus appears to be more closely related to Phylloscartes. This recently described species is apparently closest to Red-billed Tyrannulet (Zimmerius cinereicapilla).
Similar Species
Differs from sympatric Slender-footed Tyrannulet (Zimmerius gracilipes) in having pinkish lower mandible.
