Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest and caves. Also subtropical and tropical mangroves and pastureland. From sea-level - 600 m.

Saipan, Tinian and Guam in southern Mariana Is. Introduced to Oahu, Hawaii.

Population
Estimated population is 3,200 - 3,500 (2010) and decreasing.
Status EN
The brown tree snake is the main threat, but disturbance from humans and feral mammals are also a concern.

Voice
Chirps and twitterings. Echolocation clicks inside caves.
Subspecies
Aerodramus inquietus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Mariana Swiftlet (Aerodramus bartschi) following Browning (1993) and AOU (1998) and Caroline Swiftlet (Aerodramus inquietus) following Browning (1993).
Genus often merged into Collocalia. Forms superspecies with Mossy-nest Swiftlet (Aerodramus salangana), Uniform Swiftlet (Aerodramus vanikorensis), Palau Swiftlet (Aerodramus pelewensis) and Caroline Swiftlet (Aerodramus inquietus) and all were formerly considered conspecific. Previously lumped with Palau Swiftlet (Aerodramus pelewensis), and sometimes also associated with germani and inexpectatus of Edible-nest Swiftlet (Aerodramus fuciphagus). Considered a subspecies of Caroline Swiftlet (Aerodramus inquietus) by some authors.
