Subspecies
Has been considered conspecific with Stolid Flycatcher (Myiarchus stolidus), but usually treated as separate species on basis of vocal characters. Phylogenetic analysis of mitochondrial DNA found nominate subspecies to be more closely related to nominate subspecies of Stolid Flycatcher (Myiarchus stolidus), with subspecies dominicensis of Stolid Flycatcher (Myiarchus stolidus) being sister to subspecies lucaysiensis of present species. Interestingly, dawn song of nominate Stolid Flycatcher (Myiarchus stolidus) is similar to that of both subspecies of present species.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
lucaysiensis (Bryant, H, 1867) - Bahamas (Abaco, Andros, Grand Bahama, Green Cay, Inagua, New Providence).
sagrae (Gundlach, 1852) - Cuba, I of Pines and Grand Cayman I.
