Subspecies
No subspecies.
Was formerly placed in a monotypic genus, Eribates, on basis of supposed "very long tarsus". Morphologically, appears most closely related to Brown-crested Flycatcher (Myiarchus tyrannulus), but it was not included in recent phylogenetic analysis. In playback experiments has shown behavioural response to voices only of that species and Grenada Flycatcher (Myiarchus nugator), further suggesting a close relationship to the "Brown-crested Flycatcher (Myiarchus tyrannulus) group".
