Habitat
From humid forest through to deciduous forest, dry Acacia scrub to open, sparsely vegetated desert and intensely farmed areas to towns - but principally arid areas. From sea-level - 2,500 m, but most frequently below 1,500 m.
Status NT
Habitat destruction and fragmentation, trapping for the cage-bird trade, are the main threats.

Subspecies
As result of different generic placement, species name formerly listed as rubrolarvatus.
