Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland dry grassland and shrubland, dry savanna, dry forest, pastureland, arable land. From sea-level - 1,200 m.

Range (Guide)
Bangladesh, India (B) (NB), Iran [Islamic Republic of] (B), Israel, Nepal, Oman (B), Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates.

Introduced to Jordan (B) (NB), Kuwait (NB), Puerto Rico (B) (NB), Qatar, Virgin Islands (U.S.) (PE) (B).

Unknown to Afghanistan.

Eastern Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, eastern Oman, and southern Iran eastern along coast to Indian Subcontinent south of Himalayas, from Pakistan and Nepal east to Bangladesh (Sundarbans) and south to northern and eastern Sri Lanka (dry zone); also Israel, Jordan, extreme north-eastern Egypt (Sinai) and extreme north-western Arabia (origin uncertain, possibly introduced). Introduced in Hawaiian Is, Puerto Rico and Virgin Is (St Croix).

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

No subspecies.
