Blyth, 1847

Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From 1,200 - 2,500 m.

Range (Guide)
Bangladesh (NB), China (mainland) (B), India (B), Laos, Myanmar (B), Thailand (NB), Vietnam (B).

North-eastern India, Myanmar and southern China (Yunnan and western Sichuan east to Guizhou and Guangxi). Non-breeding also Bangladesh, northern Thailand and northern Indochina.
 
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Voice
Mostly silent. A thin 'seep' in contact and at the nest. A high-pitched, staccato 'chi-lit' in alarm. Song, by males, either a two prolonged, descending whistles 'wheeer-dooo' or the same notes broken up and extended into a series of far-carrying whistled trills, often upslurred.

Eggs (Guide)
2 or 3; variously pale green, flecked and blotched with red-brown; oblong-oval; about 34 x 23 mm.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Has been thought to form a superspecies with Tickell's Thrush (Turdus unicolor) and Grey-backed Thrush (Turdus hortulorum). Formerly considered conspecific with Grey-backed Thrush (Turdus hortulorum).
