Insects, lizards, fallen fruits and berries.

Voice
A subdued 'bzuk... bzuk'. A 'p-tang' with a metallic quality, uttered in alarm.

Nest
A shallow saucer composed of twigs lined with green leaves, place in a thorn bush or on a sapling 2 - 7 m above the ground.

Eggs (Guide)
2 - 3; chalky white.

Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

sirkee (Gray, JE, 1831) - Pakistan (Sind, Punjab) and north-western India.
infuscata Blyth, 1845 - India in sub-Himalayan terai and duars from Kumaon through Nepal to western Assam and Bangladesh, and south to south-central Maharashtra and northern Andhra Pradesh.
leschenaultii (Lesson, 1830) - Southern India and Sri Lanka.
