Metallic-winged Sunbird (Aethopyga pulcherrima) [XC67545]
by Frank Lambert from Mindanao; Zamboanga, Pasonanca Watershed Reserve, Cabonegro, Philippines (call)
Subspecies
No obvious close relatives, but has been suggested that this species forms a superspecies with Elegant Sunbird (Aethopyga duyvenbodei).
Proposed subspecies dubia (described from Dinagat) seems insufficiently distinct from nominate to be tenable.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
jefferyi Sharpe, 1876 - Northern and central Luzon, in northern Philippines. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Luzon Sunbird (Aethopyga jefferyi).
