First Described (Guide)
(Rand & Rabor, 1952)

Habitat
Lower storey of montane forest, recently degraded forest, secondary forest and dense bushes at the forest edge and in forest opened up for agriculture. From 950 - 1,600 m, chiefly occurring between 1,050 - 1,400 m.

Range (Guide)
Philippines (B) (NB).

Negros, in west-central Philippine Is.
 
Population
Estimated population is 1,000 - 2,499 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction and degradation, especially from slash-and-burn farming, is the main threat.

Voice
Rather thin, high-pitched contact call notes consisting of 'tsip-tsip-tsip', often in trills.

Subspecies
Genus usually merged into Stachyris. May form a superspecies with Luzon Striped-Babbler (Zosterornis striatus), Panay Striped-Babbler (Zosterornis latistriatus) and Palawan Striped-Babbler (Zosterornis hypogrammicus) and arguably conspecific with Panay Striped-Babbler (Zosterornis latistriatus), but vocally distinct.

No subspecies.
