Subspecies
Subspecies talautensis sometimes treated as a separate species.

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

unirufa Salomonsen, 1937 - Northern Philippines: Palaui, Luzon, Polillo, Catanduanes, Lubang, Mindoro, Marinduque, Tablas, Romblon, Sibuyan, Panay, Negros and Cebu. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Northern Rufous Paradise-flycatcher (Terpsiphone unirufa).
cinnamomea (Sharpe, 1877) - Southern Philippines: Samar, Dinagat, Siargao, Camiguin Sur, Mindanao, Basilan and Sulu Archipelago.
talautensis (Meyer, AB & Wiglesworth, 1894) - Talaud Is, south of Philippines.
