Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

samarensis (Sharpe, 1877) - East-central Philippines (Samar, Leyte, Bohol). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Visayan Blue Fantail (Rhipidura samarensis).
apo Hachisuka, 1930 - Mindanao (except west), in southern Philippines.
superciliaris (Sharpe, 1877) - Western Mindanao (western Zamboanga Peninsula) and Basilan.
