Habitat
Canopy and middle storeys of forests, especially thick bamboo forest, forest edge. From 50 - 440 m.

Range (Guide)
Philippines (B).

Mountains of northern and western Luzon, in provinces of Bataan (probably extinct), Cagayan, Quirino and Isabela, in northern Philippines.
 
Population
Estimated population is 50 - 249 (2010) and decreasing.

Status CR
Habitat destruction and degradation through illegal logging and agricultural encroachment, are the main threats.

Voice
Three calls have been recorded: a sightly descending whistle lasting 0.5 s and repeated at intervals of 1-2 s; a higher, rising whistle repeated at similar intervals, and a harsh rolling call, not unlike a cricket, repeated at 2 calls/s in a long series.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Possibly forms a superspecies with Dark-throated Oriole (Oriolus xanthonotus) and Philippine Oriole (Oriolus steerii), and all were formerly placed in the alternative genus Xanthonotus. Sometimes considered closest to subspecies albiloris of Philippine Oriole (Oriolus steerii) (or White-lored Oriole (Oriolus albiloris)).

Similar Species
White-lored Oriole (Oriolus albiloris) has white lores, shorter tail and shorter, more slender dark red bill.
