First Described (Guide)
(Oustalet, 1880)

Habitat
Lowland and hill dipterocarp forest and mid-montane forest. Occasionally stunted montane or mossy forest. From 450 - 1,500 m, but mainly above 1,000 m.

Range (Guide)
Philippines (B).

Luzon (northern Philippines).
 
Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status VU
Forest loss, degradation and fragmentation are the main threats. Also, hunting for food and probably sport, and collection for trade are further factors.

A deep, booming 'woo-oo'.

Subspecies
Formerly placed in genus Leucotreron but a later proposal returned all members of that group to Ptilinopus, but placed present species in subgenus Rhamphiculus along with other Philippine and Sulawesi forms Cream-bellied Fruit-Dove (Ramphiculus merrilli), Yellow-breasted Fruit-Dove (Ramphiculus occipitalis), Red-eared Fruit-dove (Ramphiculus fischeri), Maroon-chinned Fruit-dove (Ramphiculus epius) and Black-chinned Fruit-Dove (Ramphiculus leclancheri). Present species is most closely allied with Cream-bellied Fruit-Dove (Ramphiculus merrilli).

No subspecies.
