Mindanao I, in southern Philippines.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Status NT
Forest destruction and degradation through logging, mining operations and clearance for agriculture is the main threat.

Subspecies
Probably forms superspecies with Luzon Scops-Owl (Otus longicornis). Formerly treated as subspecies of either Oriental Scops-Owl (Otus sunia) or Eurasian Scops-Owl (Otus scops), but differs greatly from both in morphology and vocalizations.

No subspecies.
