Habitat
Primary lowland and transitional (to mid-mountain) dipterocarp forest, with dense vegetation, tangled thickets, vine-covered shrubs and bamboo. From sea-level - 760 m.

Range (Guide)

Philippines (B).

Mindoro (north-central Philippines).

Population
Estimated population is 50 - 249 (2010) and decreasing.

Status CR
Habitat destruction, degradation and fragmentation through slash-and-burn cultivation, occasional selective logging and rattan collection, are the main threats.

Typically five to eight deep 'woop' notes given in a descending series.

Similar Species
Subspecies mindorensis of Philippine Coucal (Centropus viridis) which is entirely blackish, lacking the contrasting dark hood.
