Subspecies
Sometimes placed in monotypic genus Dasylophus.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

cagayanensis (Rand & Rabor, 1967) - Cagayan Province, north-eastern Luzon.
superciliosus (Dumont, 1823) - Luzon (western and south of range of previous race).

Similar Species
Scale-feathered Malkoha (Lepidogrammus cumingi) has greyish white head and chestnut rufous mantle and breast. Philippine Coucal (Centropus viridis) has rufous wings.
