Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Silvery Kingfisher (Ceyx argentatus).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

cyanopectus (Lafresnaye, 1840) - Luzon, Polillo, Catanduanes, Mindoro, Marinduque, Sibuyan, Masbate and Ticao (northern Philippines).
nigrirostris Bourns & Worcester, 1894 - Panay, Negros and Cebu (central Philippines). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Southern Indigo-banded Kingfisher (Ceyx nigrirostris).
