Forms a superspecies with Cream-throated White-eye (Zosterops atriceps), Black-crowned White-eye (Zosterops atrifrons), Togian White-eye (Zosterops somadikartai), Sangihe White-eye (Zosterops nehrkorni), Seram White-eye (Zosterops stalkeri), Black-fronted White-eye (Zosterops minor) and Black-headed White-eye (Zosterops hypoxanthus). Sometimes treated as conspecific with Black-fronted White-eye (Zosterops minor), of which it may be merely a subspecies which has lost its yellow throat.
