Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Bismarck Fantail (Rhipidura dahli), Rufous-backed Fantail (Rhipidura rufidorsa) and Malaita Fantail (Rhipidura malaitae), as part of a larger species group that also includes Rusty-bellied Fantail (Rhipidura teysmanni), Tawny-backed Fantail (Rhipidura superflua), Streaky-breasted Fantail (Rhipidura dedemi), Long-tailed Fantail (Rhipidura opistherythra), Palau Fantail (Rhipidura lepida), Arafura Fantail (Rhipidura dryas), Rufous Fantail (Rhipidura rufifrons) and Manus Fantail (Rhipidura semirubra).
No subspecies.
