Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From 1,800 - 3,400 m.

Range (Guide)

Papua New Guinea (B) (NB).

From Doma Peaks, upper Strickland R, Muller Range and Karius Range east to Porgera/Mt Liwaro highlands, Mt Hagen and Mt Giluwe.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Hunting for tail plumes and large-scale logging and forest degradation and the main threats.

Subspecies
Intrageneric hybridization with Stephanie's Astrapia (Astrapia stephaniae) has been recorded. Possible hybridization with Splendid Astrapia (Astrapia splendidissima) in west of range, but no confirmed records of such.

No subspecies.
