Subspecies
Possibly related to Mangrove Gerygone (Gerygone levigaster) or Plain Gerygone (Gerygone inornata).

The following 5 subspecies are recognised:

  • sulphurea Wallace, 1864   -  Malay Peninsula, Cochinchina and Greater and Lesser Sundas.
  • muscicapa Oberholser, 1912   -  Enggano I (off southern Sumatra).
  • simplex Cabanis, 1872   -  Northern, western and central Philippines (Luzon, Lubang, Verde, Mindoro, Marinduque, Catanduanes, Tablas, Negros, Cebu, Olango, Bohol, Siquijor, Samar, Palawan).
  • rhizophorae Mearns, 1905   -  Southern Philippines (Mindanao, Basilan, and Sulu Archipelago).
  • flaveola Cabanis, 1873   -  Sulawesi, Salayar and Banggai Is (Peleng, Banggai).


Notes
The only member of this Australasian family to cross the Wallace's Line west into the Sunda subregion.
