Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Drab Myzomela (Myzomela blasii), Red-throated Myzomela (Myzomela eques), Umboi Myzomela (Myzomela cineracea) and Dusky Myzomela (Myzomela obscura).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

pallidior Hartert, 1898 - Bonvouloir Is (Hastings I, East I), Conflict Group (including Panasesa), Deboyne Is (including Panapompom) and Kimuta I, in western and central Louisiade Archipelago, off south-eastern New Guinea.
albigula Hartert, 1898 - Rossel I, in E Louisiade Archipelago.
