New Britain and New Ireland.

Population
Estimated population is 10,000 - 19,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat destruction through conversion to oil palm plantations is the main threat.

Voice
A deep resonant 'wooo....woo-oop' sometimes as part of a duet in which the first bird calls a series of low-pitched notes with the second replying at a higher pitch, the resulting sound be analogous to a giant hiccup.
