Nest
Open, cup-shaped, composed of strips of bark, grasses and twigs, lined with plant-down, placed in a banksia or other dense shrub, 1 m or so above the ground.
Eggs (Guide)
1 - 3; pink-buff with a belt of chestnut-red and browner spots at the larger end; oval; 21 x 15 mm. Incubation: about 14 - 15 days; by female.
Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in 10 - 14 days.

The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
novaehollandiae (Latham, 1790) - Coastal and subcoastal south-eastern mainland Australia from montane south-eastern Qld through eastern New South Wales and southern Vic to the gulfs of SA.
canescens (Latham, 1790) - Tasmania.
caudatus Salomonsen, 1966 - King I. and Flinders Islands (Bass Strait).
campbelli (Mathews, 1923) - Kangaroo Island, SA.
longirostris (Gould, 1846) - Coastal and subcoastal south-western WA, between Geraldton and Esperance - Israelite Bay.
Similar Species
White-cheeked Honeyeater (Phylidonyris niger) (especially juveniles) which has a large white cheek patch, a dark-brown eye, and lacks white tips to the outer tail feathers.
