Habitat
Lowland forest, mixed stands of native and cultivated trees, flowering plants, coconut, and banana plantations and gardens.

Range (Guide)

Cook Islands (B), French Polynesia (B).

Aitutaki in Cook Is; Motu One and Manuae in Society Is; and Rangiroa, Arutua, Apataki and Tikehau in Tuamotu Archipelago.

Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status VU
Predation by black rat Rattus rattus and to a lesser extent, feral cats, is the main threat.

Nectar, soft fruit and flowers.

Voice
A very high-pitched hissing screech 'scheee-scheee', usually doubled.
