Subspecies
Formerly considered a subspecies of Mountain Wren (Troglodytes solstitialis), but recent DNA work strongly supports treatment as a separate species.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
ochraceus Ridgway, 1882 - Highlands of Costa Rica (Tilarán and Talamanca ranges and mountainous areas in between).
ligea Bangs, 1908 - Mountains of western Panama.
festinus Nelson, 1912 - Cerro Pirre, in eastern Panama; possibly also adjacent north-western Colombia.
