First Described (Guide)
(Parker & O'Neill, 1985)

Habitat
Subtropical and tropical moist montane forest. From 1,830 - 3,350 m, occasionally 1,700 - 3,400 m.

Range (Guide)
Peru.

Cuzco (from Cordillera de Vilcabamba south to valleys of R Santa Marta and R Urubamba), in southern Peru.
 
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Closely related to, and has been considered to form a superspecies with, Plain-tailed Wren (Pheugopedius euophrys), but differs markedly in song and (especially when compared with geographically closest subspecies of latter) in plumage. Neither species responds to playback of the other's song.
