Scytalopus magellanicus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Magellanic Tapaculo (Scytalopus magellanicus), Rufous-rumped Tapaculo (Scytalopus griseicollis), Lara Tapaculo (Scytalopus fuscicauda), Elfin Forest Tapaculo (Scytalopus altirostris), Ancash Tapaculo (Scytalopus affinis), Sharp-billed Tapaculo (Scytalopus acutirostris), Cuzco Tapaculo (Scytalopus urubambae), Andean Tapaculo (Scytalopus simonsi), Zimmer's Tapaculo (Scytalopus zimmeri), Dusky Tapaculo (Scytalopus fuscus) and Páramo Tapaculo (Scytalopus canus) following SACC (2005).
Formerly treated as a subspecies of Magellanic Tapaculo (Scytalopus magellanicus).
