Estimated population is 250 - 999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction and degradation is the main threat.

An accelerating and slightly descending trill introduced by several well-spaced notes.

Subspecies
Considered to be part of the Bahia Antwren (Herpsilochmus pileatus) clade, also including Caatinga Antwren (Herpsilochmus sellowi), Black-capped Antwren (Herpsilochmus atricapillus) and Creamy-bellied Antwren (Herpsilochmus motacilloides).

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Male Creamy-bellied Antwren (Herpsilochmus motacilloides) is not as grey below.
