Subtropical and tropical lowland dry shrubland, dry forest. From sea-level - 900 m.

Robinson Crusoe I (formerly Más Atierra), in Juan Fernández Is (off Chile).
 
Population
Estimated population is 5,000 (2010) and stable.
Status NT
Predation by cats and possible, but unquantified predation, by introduced Red-backed Hawk (Geranoaetus polyosoma ) are the main threats.

No subspecies.
Genus was long known as Spizitornis . Molecular data indicate that this species and Tufted Tit-Tyrant (Anairetes parulus ) form a superspecies.
