Habitat
High mountain alkaline and salt-lakes. From 2,300 - 4,500 m.

Range (Guide)

Argentina (B), Bolivia (B), Chile (B), Peru (B).

Vagrant to Brazil (NB).

Restricted to high Andes, from southern Peru through Bolivia to northern Chile and north-western Argentina.

Population
Estimated population is 34,000 (2010) and decreasing.

Status VU
Habitat destruction and degradation through mining, alteration of water levels, human disturbance, egg-collection are the main threats.

Voice
