Small fish, and invertebrates and their larvae.
Subspecies
May form superspecies with Black-necked Grebe (Podiceps nigricollis), Colombian Grebe (Podiceps andinus) and Silvery Grebe (Podiceps occipitalis), although sympatric with subspecies juninensis of Silvery Grebe (Podiceps occipitalis).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Subspecies juninensis of Silvery Grebe (Podiceps occipitalis) which is smaller, shorter necked, and has shorter, mostly blackish bill.
