Habitat
Subtropical and tropical moist montane forest. From 350 - 2,500 m, occasionally 200 - 2,800 m.

Range (Guide)

Peru.

Eastern slope of Andes in central Peru.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Often placed in genus Amazilia, but separation from Leucippus cannot be maintained, for reasons of morphology, behaviour and biogeography. In past, alternatively placed in genus Chionogaster, along with White-bellied Hummingbird (Amazilia chionogaster). Sympatric with White-bellied Hummingbird (Amazilia chionogaster) in Urubamba Valley (central Peru), but hybridization not yet demonstrated.

No subspecies.
