Habitat
The canopy of humid, epiphyte-laden montane forest, particularly areas with Clusia trees. From 2,100 - 2,450 m.

Range (Guide)

Peru (B).

Locally in Peru (San Mart��n and La Libertad).

Population
Estimated population is 1,000 - 2,499 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction and degradation through conversion to agriculture is the main threat.

A monotonously repeated short, dry rattling 'cuah cuah cuah'.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Crimson-rumped Toucanet (Aulacorhynchus haematopygus) and Blue-banded Toucanet (Aulacorhynchus coeruleicinctis), and perhaps closer to latter.

No subspecies.
