Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Cocoa Thrush (Turdus fumigatus) and Hauxwell's Thrush (Turdus hauxwelli), and all possibly better treated as conspecific. Subspecies orinocensis of Cocoa Thrush (Turdus fumigatus) sometimes included in present species.

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

obsoletus Lawrence, 1862 - Costa Rica, Panama and north-western Colombia.
parambanus Hartert, 1920 - Western Colombia and western Ecuador.
colombianus Hartert & Hellmayr, 1901 - Central Colombia.
