Habitat
Subtropical and tropical moist lowland forest. From sea-level - 1,050 m.

Range (Guide)
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela.

Caribbean side of extreme southern Nicaragua, Costa Rica and western Panama and, eastern from Canal Zone, on both sides south to northern and western Colombia (from Gulf of Urabá east to middle Magdalena Valley, and west of Andes) and north-western Ecuador; also Amazonia from eastern Colombia (southern from Meta and Vaupés), southern and eastern Venezuela (south of R Orinoco) and the Guianas south to south-eastern Peru, central Brazil (south to middle reaches of southern tributaries) and northern Bolivia; in north, apparently absent from most of R Negro drainage.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Relationships uncertain. Size (as indicated by both wing lengths and weights) varies geographically, birds from Andean foothills of Peru being considerably larger, and those from Central America somewhat larger, than birds from the Guianas. However, differences considered not sufficient for naming of any geographical subspecies.
