Habitat
Subtropical and tropical moist lowland forest. From sea-level - 900 m.
Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama.
Costa Rica south to western Colombia and north-western Ecuador.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Formerly placed in a separate genus, Perissotriccus , along with Short-tailed Pygmy-tyrant (Myiornis ecaudatus ). The two form a superspecies and were previously treated by many authors as conspecific.
