Chile (NB), Colombia, Peru (B) (NB).
Vagrant to French Polynesia.
Unknown to Costa Rica (NB), Ecuador (NB).
South-eastern Pacific, with breeding confirmed only on Paracas Peninsula (14° south), Peru, where first nests recently found; bulk of population probably nests on coast of Chile or Peru.
 
Population
Estimated population is 50,000 (2010).
