Chile (B), Colombia, Ecuador (B), Peru.
Vagrant to Argentina.
Population
Estimated population is 30,000 (2010) and stable.
Status DD
Not known. Breeding colonies are potentially vulnerable to predation by invasive species.

Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
gracilis (Elliot, 1859) - Ecuador south to central Chile, with breeding recorded only at Chungungo I off Chile, 29° south.
galapagoensis Lowe, 1921 - Presumably breeds at Galapagos Is.
