Subspecies
May be conspecific with Venezuelan Wood-Quail (Odontophorus columbianus), Black-fronted Wood-Quail (Odontophorus atrifrons), Black-breasted Wood-Quail (Odontophorus leucolaemus) and Gorgeted Wood-Quail (Odontophorus strophium). Probably most closely related to Gorgeted Wood-Quail (Odontophorus strophium).

No subspecies.
