Habitat
Subtropical and tropical dry shrubland, mangroves. From 800 - 900 m.
Colombia (B).

Coastal north-central Colombia, around Ciénaga Grande and near mouth of R Ranchería, Ríohacha (Guajira).

Population
Estimated population is 50 - 249 (2010) and decreasing.
Status CR
Habitat destruction and degradation through domestic and industrial pollution, sewage, urbanisation and particularly mangrove and forest cutting are the main threats.

Subspecies
Status uncertain. Sometimes considered a subspecies, morph or age stage of Sapphire-throated Hummingbird (Lepidopyga coeruleogularis).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Male Sapphire-throated Hummingbird (Lepidopyga coeruleogularis) lacks glittering blue lower breast and belly, but can appear very similar in certain light conditions. Female Sapphire-throated Hummingbird (Lepidopyga coeruleogularis) all white below with green sides. Greyish-white tail tips.
