Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, temperate forest. From 1,250 - 2,500 m, occasionally to 600 m.

Subspecies
Status controversial owing to uncertainty over range and the increasing probability of its representing hybrid Slaty-headed Parakeet (Psittacula himalayana) x Plum-headed Parakeet (Psittacula cyanocephala), for which the evidence is becoming extremely convincing.
