Subspecies
Individuals of this species observed from eastern Yemen to southern Oman apparently not yet assigned to subspecies.

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

squamiceps (Cretzschmar, 1827) - Extreme north-eastern Egypt (Sinai), southern Israel, and south-western Jordan south to central Saudi Arabia.
yemensis Neumann, 1904 - South-western Saudi Arabia and western Yemen.
muscatensis (Meyer de Schauensee & Ripley, 1953) - Eastern United Arab Emirates and northern Oman.
