Vagrant to Algeria, Cameroon, Djibouti, Eritrea, Germany, Italy, Niger, Nigeria, Oman, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Spain, Ukraine.

Sister-species of Upcher's Warbler (Hippolais languida), the two being fairly close to the sister-species pair formed by Melodious Warbler (Hippolais polyglotta) and Icterine Warbler (Hippolais icterina).
