Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], C�te dIvoire, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea (B), Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia (B), Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania [United Republic of], Togo, Uganda, Yemen (B), Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Vagrant to Gambia, Oman.

Africa south of Sahara and south-western Arabia; breeds north of equator, with most birds spending rest of year in eastern and southern parts of Africa.

Population
Estimated population is 300,000 - 600,000 (2010).
