Habitat
Sandy and stony semi-desert, where trees are absent and both shrub cover and herb layer are sparse.
Middle East and Arabia east to Iran and extreme western Pakistan. Also breeds from north-western Kazakhstan and north-eastern Iran east to Mongolia and northern China, wintering from Persian Gulf to Pakistan and north-western India, and in central China.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2011) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat loss and degradation caused by tourist facilities, off-road vehicles, military exercises, overgrazing, sand extraction, powerlines and road development, and collision with powerlines, possible nest predation by introduced mammals, and illegal hunting are the main threats.

Subspecies
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Houbara Bustard (Chlamydotis undulata).
