Nest
In a hole of a tree, cliff or building, sparsely lined with twigs and grass. Also rabbit burrows.
Eggs (Guide )
2; glossy, white; ellipsoidal. Incubation: about 17 days; by both sexes.
Subspecies
Closely related to Yellow-eyed Pigeon (Columba eversmanni ) and Somali Pigeon (Columba oliviae ).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
oenas Linnaeus, 1758 - Britain north to southern Scandinavia and Finland, south to Portugal and north-western Africa, and east to northern Iran, Caspian Sea and north-eastern Kazakhstan (Semipalatinsk).
yarkandensis Buturlin, 1908 - Eastern Uzbekistan, Kirgizia and Tadjikistan east through Tien Shan and Tarim Basin to Lop Nur (eastern Xinjiang).
