Habitat
Dry savanna, hot desert. Also, plantations. From sea-level - 3,000 m.
Egypt, India, Israel (B), Jordan (B) (NB), Oman (B), Pakistan, Palestinian Authority Territories (B), Saudi Arabia (B), Yemen (B).
Eastern and southern Israel, Jordan, Sinai Peninsula and eastern Egypt (Red Sea mountains), and patchily in Arabian Peninsula (Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Oman); possibly still southern Pakistan (Makran Coast), perhaps also southern Iran.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Probably forms superspecies with Tawny Owl (Strix aluco ). Formerly treated as conspecific with Tawny Owl (Strix aluco ).
