The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
vivax Koelz, 1954 - Northern India (Uttaranchal Pradesh).
gularis Hodgson, 1836 - Nepal, Bhutan, north-eastern India (Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur), southern and south-eastern Xizang, western, northern and eastern Myanmar, southern China (western, central and southern Yunnan), northern Laos and northern Vietnam (western Tonkin).
omeiensis Riley, 1930 - Central and southern China (western, central and northern Sichuan south to northern and north-eastern Yunnan).
uthaii Eames, JC, 2002 - Central Vietnam (central Annam).
